The Tapestry Collection - Everything is connected
Project type
Illustration
Date
October 2025
Location
Bradford
This collection of five tapestries has been co-created with communities across Bradford in response to the Everything is Connected exhibition from the Methodist Modern Art Collection. Each tapestry is rooted in its venue — a place of worship, hope, and gathering — and reflects the stories, symbols, and spiritual reflections shared by those who call these spaces home.
Drawing inspiration from the artworks in the Methodist Modern Art Collection, the tapestries explore themes of faith, sacrifice, forgiveness, peril, peace, and womanhood. Icons from the collection are reimagined through local lenses, woven together with motifs from nature, scripture, and sacred ritual. From the Feeding of the Five Thousand to the story of Easter, from South Asian interpretations of Jesus to the voices of women in the Bible and beyond — each tapestry is a visual meditation on how art, faith, and community intertwine.
Crafted in tapestry form to honour Bradford’s rich textile heritage, this collection celebrates not only the stories within the artworks, but the process of making itself — a communal act of weaving meaning, memory, and hope. Whether created through workshops, conversations, or shared reflection, these pieces stand as testament to the power of art to connect us — across generations, cultures, and beliefs.
